Description

Governor's Palace, overhead view of holly garden on the east side of the Palace, immediately behind the Advance Buildings, 1935. Located in a courtyard between the Governor's Palace East Advance Building and various outbuildings, the holly garden is laid out in a formal parterre pattern. Landscape architect Arthur Shurcliff drew landscape precedents from Johannes Kips' engravings of eighteenth-century English gardens.
