Capt Hennessey
Sir Several days ago my house was broken
open by a band of armed soldiers, and a large quantity of old
and very valuable wine taken way., a large portion of it was
consumed by soldiers and negros, the remainder being
placed in a room in the Lunatic Asylum. I was
assured that it would be taken care of & restored to me
[verso]
but the officer now acting here as Provost Marshal
has repeatedly taken away large quantities of it,
and unless I can obtain your assistance it will all
Soon be consumed. I appeal to you as a gentleman
to aid me. I am an old Lady, utterly unable to help
myslef, and request that you will use your influence to
redress the indignity & outrages that have been committed
