Description

"Development of the English Garden", a chronological chart documenting sites visited during Arthur Shurcliff's tour of English gardens in preparation for the preliminary phase of developing landscape plans for Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area. Gardens surveyed by Shurcliff ranged from the Mediaeval to Georgian periods and included Bodiam Castle, Hampton Court, Winwick Manor, Montacute, Owlpen, St. Catherine's Court, Ham House, Hatfield House, Packwood, Wadham College, Althorpe, Badminton, Chelsea Hospital, Ven House, Westbury-on-Severn, Canons Ashby, Blenheim, and Prior Park.
